Khajabad stands as one such living centre. Hazrat Basheeruddin Khajabad (MZA) is the 44th link in this unbroken chain. He was honoured with the spiritual name 'Basheeruddin' and the sacred mantle of Khilafat was bestowed upon him by his Sheikh, Hazrat Khwaja Muhammad Dada Chishti (RA). Through him, Khajabad continues today as a living centre where Tarbiyyah is transmitted directly from heart to heart. ### Spiritual Significance Hazrat Khwaja Muhammad Dada Chishti (RA) waited nearly forty years to find one who fulfilled every strict condition inherited from the masters before him. It was because Hazrat Basheeruddin (MZA) uniquely met all of those conditions that he was chosen as the Khalifa. ### Biography & Timeline Njandadi Sheikh (RA), the spiritual guide of Basheeruddin Hazrat's father Abdulla Musliyar, conveyed these glad tidings: 'You are destined to be the father of a person of extraordinary distinction.' This blessed glad tiding was fulfilled in its entirety when the young Abdul Aziz grew up to become the 44th Sheikh of the Chishti Sabiri Silsila, known as Basheeruddin Hazrat. Born on 18 January 1965 (Ramadan 15, a Wednesday) in Karayya, Pandikkad, Malappuram district. His birth name was Abdul Aziz. His father was Abdulla Musliyar (Nahmahu), the first mudarris of Cherukulam Juma Masjid, and his mother was Fathima, daughter of Mampadan Hasan. His father had already received an intimation through his own spiritual guide, Njandadi Sheikh (RA), that the son would become a person of special distinction. At the age of 12, his father took him on ziyarat to Nagore and Muthupettai. He began his formal studies in 1976 at the Karayya Juma Masjid. Then known as Abdul Aziz and a dedicated seeker of knowledge (muta'allim), he was first granted the company of his Sheikh, Hazrat Khwaja Muhammad Dada Chishti (RA) (Mammikutty Musliyar), during a 1979–80 visit to Ajmer Sharif. Despite his very young age, the Sheikh — who, on the instruction of Hazrat Sayyid Iqbal Shah Chishti Kambal Posh (RA), had awaited a worthy khalifa for Kerala for nearly four decades — discerned that every prescribed condition was uniquely fulfilled in this young seeker. After a brief period of suhbat in Ajmer he returned to his homeland; two or three years later he made his way back to Ajmer and was drawn into ever closer companionship with the Sheikh. He was then granted the amal of the tariqah by Hazrat Khwaja Muhammad Dada Chishti (RA) (Mammikutty Musliyar), who personally guided him through every spiritual discipline that he himself had received from Hazrat Sayyid Iqbal Shah Chishti Kambal Posh (RA). It was during this period that he visited the renowned saint Qutbul Alam Madavoor C.M. Valiyullahi (RA) in Kozhikode. Amidst a gathering of visitors, the saint gave him the remaining tea from his own glass — a glass half-filled with tea powder. The student Abdul Aziz scraped and consumed every last trace from the glass, including the tea powder sediment. Witnessing this, Qutbul Alam cast a special gaze upon him — a glance that became a spiritual turning point in his life. Following that gaze, a state of divine absorption manifested in him. Subsequently, he pursued knowledge and discipleship under eminent Islamic scholars of Kerala. In 1989, having attained complete perfection in those spiritual disciplines, he was formally conferred with the Khilafat of the Chishti Sabiri tariqah. The honorific title bestowed upon him at the moment of that investiture was 'Basheeruddin'. After being conferred with the Faizy degree in 1990, he commenced his service as a mudarris (teacher). His first dars was at Vadakara Kannampathukara Juma Masjid. He later taught at Areekode Mundampra Thazhathumuri Palli, and in the 2000s at mosques in Pilassery, Puliyattukulam, and Kolathara, nurturing numerous students. On the instruction of his Sheikh, the conferral of Khilafat was initially kept secret. He then confided in his close friend and fellow mudarris at Morayur Juma Masjid, Melattur Mammad Musliyar, who immediately took the Chishti Sabiri amal from Sheikhuna. After Mammad Musliyar, the prominent Tamil Nadu scholar and Misbahul Huda Arabic College professor Mawlana Hazrat Sulaiman Pasha al-Misbahi al-Baqawi (Nahmahu) and many others joined this silsila. The renowned Haji K.V. Muhammad Musliyar Panthavoor joined on the spiritual directive of his Akbariyya tariqah guide Eerattupetta Fareed Bava Khan Valiyullahi and Sheikhuna Kakkidippuram Valiyullahi. Others who joined include Mawlana C.K.M. Swadikh Musliyar Mannarkkad, Valiyullahi Vengoor P.T. Yusuf Musliyar, P.P. Yusuf Musliyar Mannarkkad, M.M. Muhyiddin Musliyar Aluva, C.H. Moydutty Musliyar Aluva, O.T. Moosa Musliyar Mudikkod, Abu Ishaq Ismail Maulavi Kozhikode, M. Sulaiman Faizi Maliyekkal, and others who have passed on. Details of those still living cannot be disclosed. Among the eminent visitors who recognised the unique distinction of this silsila — the only one reaching Kerala directly from Hazrat Khwaja Iqbal Shah (RA), the chief Khalifa of Noor-ul-Mashaikh Hazrat Khwaja Jahangir Shah (RA) of Ajmer Sharif — were Allama Sayyid Abdur Rahman Impichikoya Thangal al-Azhari (RA) and Sheikhuna Attipatta Muhyiddin Kutty Musliyar (RA). During his 2008 Umrah journey, eyewitnesses have documented how he was overcome with such intense love for the Prophet ﷺ at the Rawdha Sharif in Madinah that he fell unconscious. He also spent time in solitary meditation in the cave of Baba Fakhruddin Suhrawardi at Penukonda in Andhra Pradesh. Later, with complete worldly detachment, he walked on foot to mosques as far as Tamil Nadu. He prioritises spending wealth in the path of Deen and feeding the hungry over worldly comforts. ### Immediate Predecessors #### Hazrat Khwaja Muhammad Dada Chishti (Mammikutty Musliyar) (RA) **Origin:** Koppam, Palakkad **Birth:** Approx. 112 years ago — Koppam, Palakkad **Parents:** Muhyiddin (Rahimahullah) and Kunjachu (Rahimahullah) **Wafat:** 2 February 1995 (2 Ramadan) **Maqam:** Koppam Jumu'ah Masjid, Palakkad The 43rd link in the silsila. Muhammad Musliyar — whose maqam is at Tanur Morya Jumu'ah Masjid — was his close companion. **Life Journey — Hazrat Khwaja Muhammad Dada Chishti (RA)** ##### 1932–35 — Meeting the Master at Ajmer Between 1932 and 1935, at Ajmer, he met his spiritual master Hazrat Sayyid Iqbal Shah Chishti Kambal Posh (RA). Intending to appoint a special Khalifa for Kerala, the master placed him in prolonged riyada (discipline) and mujahada (spiritual struggle). ##### 1938 — Conferral of Khilafat Having attained complete success in the spiritual disciplines, in 1938 — in the presence of leading Sufis and scholars — Hazrat Sayyid Iqbal Shah Chishti Kambal Posh (RA) bestowed upon him the Khilafat of the Chishti Sabiri tariqah, and also entrusted to him the silsila parchment received from his own father. ##### A Forty-Year Wait He waited nearly forty years to find a successor matching every condition his master had laid down. During this time, the news of his master's wafat in Pakistan plunged him in deep grief; unable to travel there, he made repeated long sojourns to Ajmer instead. ##### 1979–80 — Discovering Abdul Aziz In 1979–80, at Ajmer Sharif, he encountered a young seeker, Abdul Aziz — the very one in whom every condition named by the master was perfectly fulfilled. He imparted to him the amal of the tariqah and every spiritual training he himself had received from Hazrat Sayyid Iqbal Shah Chishti Kambal Posh (RA). In 1989, upon the attainment of complete success, the mantle of Khilafat was bestowed upon him together with the honorific name 'Basheeruddin'. #### Hazrat Sayyid Iqbal Shah Chishti Kambal Posh (RA) **Birth:** 1899 — Ajmer Sharif **Parents:** Hazrat Noor-ul-Mashaikh Muhammad Jahangir Shah Kambal Posh (RA) **Wafat:** 17 Ramadan 1954 **Maqam:** Hyderabad, Sindh, Pakistan **Maqam Detail:** Sindh Province, Hyderabad — Dargah Sharif The 42nd link in the silsila. In South Africa an indescribable spiritual awakening took place through him: he conferred Khilafat upon his son Khwaja Hazrat Khalid Shah (RA), and with the help of his father's murid 'Amir Miya Sabiri' founded the trust "Bazm-e Shah Iqbal" to sustain the work. ##### The Kerala Connection — 1938 Between 1932 and 1935 a few Malabar scholars became his murids. Among them he singled out the young Muhammad Dada Chishti (Mammikutty Musliyar) to be the dedicated Khalifa for Kerala. After placing him in riyada and mujahada, in 1938 — in the presence of leading Sufis — he conferred the Khilafat upon him and entrusted to him the silsila parchment received from his own father, instructing him to find a successor in Kerala who matched specific conditions. ##### Migration to Pakistan — Wafat in 1954 Through a manam (vision) from Khwaja Mu'inuddin Chishti (RA), he received the instruction to migrate to Pakistan. It is the sacred path through which the baraka (spiritual blessing) of the Chishti Sabiri order passes to the seekers. This specific arrangement of the Chishti Sabiri lineage, titled Shajaratun Tayyiba (The Pure Tree), has been meticulously composed into a Baith (spiritual poem) by Hazrat Basheeruddin Chishti Sabiri Khajabadi. By transforming the sacred names of the masters—from the Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ down to the present day—into rhythmic verses, the Sheikh has provided a beautiful means for seekers to connect with their spiritual roots . Poetic Composition: Artistically arranged in poetic form to facilitate ease of recitation and memorization of the Chishti Sabiri masters .
